Missing Teeth

Missing teeth have always been a concern in Leonbergers and there are stringent breeding regulation concerning missing teeth. The FCI breeding standard clearly states: "The Leonberger has to have full dentition (with the exception of M3." The concern with missing teeth is that the shape of the muzzle may change over generations of breeding. Missing teeth in the Leonberger does run in families. The most common teeth that are missing are M3s and P1s, but others have occurred as well.
