Reproduction

Cryptorchidism:
Cryptorchidism is an absence of testicles in the scrotum due to retention in the abdomen or inguinal region. It can involve one or both testicles or they may slide in and out of the scrotum. Cryptorchidism is present in the breed and is inherited. Life-threatening problems (testicular cancer) can develop in dogs that have a retained testicle if they are not neutered. The mode of inheritance is not known but it seems that both males and females pass it on.

Pyometra:
Pyometra is an infection of the uterus that frequently occurs between 3 and 6 weeks after a heat cycle. The signs may include fever, lethargy, increased thirst, and vaginal discharge. Frequently, the symptoms are very subtle and it is easy to miss them. Pyometra is a concern for any owner of an intact female.
